| Westowne Centre is a 183,000 square foot community shopping center in an upper- demographic locality of Des Moines and anchored by Michael’s and Gordman’s, a regional department store chain. When RPD acquired Westowne directly from the owner, the center was suffering from 25 years of neglect. The prior owner’s failure to update the façade, or even to change the unattractive red-and-white color scheme, had caused Office Depot to relocate to a newer community center less than ½ mile away and the overall quality of the in- line tenants to fall. RPD gave the center an entirely new look and is now working on leasing- up the vacant space and upgrading the tenancy. Westowne’s prime location may spur RPD to remain owner for several years. |
